QR Codes with Your Logo: Branding That Still Scans
Why a logo in the QR matters
A bare black-and-white QR is anonymous — it could be anyone's, including a scammer's. A code carrying your logo and brand colours earns the scan: people trust codes that visibly belong to the business in front of them. Branded codes also lift scan rates on posters and packaging because they read as content, not clutter.
The trick that makes it possible: error correction
QR codes are built with Reed–Solomon error correction — the pattern contains redundant data so the code still scans when partially covered or damaged. At the highest level (H), roughly 30% of the code can be obscured. A centre logo simply 'spends' part of that budget deliberately.
That's why India QRCode automatically switches to high error correction whenever you add a centre logo, and draws a clean backing plate behind it so the logo never bleeds into data modules. You get branding without gambling on scannability.
Rules that keep a branded code scanning
- Keep the logo under ~20% of the code's area — bigger logos eat error-correction budget needed for real-world damage.
- Contrast is king: dark modules on a light background. Never invert (light-on-dark scans unreliably on older phones).
- Avoid yellow-on-white and similar low-contrast pairs; check your colours against a phone camera before printing thousands.
- Leave the quiet zone alone — the white margin around the code is part of the spec, not wasted space.
- Print at least 2×2 cm for arm's-length scans; bigger for posters (rule of thumb: scan distance ÷ 10).
- Always test the final printed artwork with 2–3 different phones before the full print run.
Branding beyond the centre logo
The frame around the code works as hard as the code itself: a title ('Spice Route Café'), a call-to-action ('Scan for our menu'), and your brand colours. India QRCode lets you set module colours and shape (square, rounded, dots), add a centre logo, and place a top logo plus caption text on the downloadable print design — all included on every plan, including the free first code.
