UPI QR Codes for Business: The Complete Guide (2026)

Why every counter in India has a QR now

UPI processed over 185 billion transactions last financial year, and the humble printed QR is its front door. For a shop, a QR beats a card machine on every axis: zero hardware cost, zero rental, zero MDR on UPI person-to-merchant payments, and settlement straight to your bank account.

A UPI QR is just a standardised link (upi://pay?pa=your-id@bank...) encoded as a QR. Any UPI app — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, bank apps — reads the same format. You don't need each app's own QR; one standard code covers them all.

Creating yours: the safe way

Use your UPI ID (VPA) from your bank or payments app, add your business name so payers see who they're paying, and optionally fix an amount. Generate it with our free UPI QR generator, print it large (at least 3×3 cm for counter distance), and laminate it.

Two safety rules. First: a receive-only QR can never pull money from your account — anyone claiming you must 'scan and enter PIN to receive' is running the classic scam; receiving money never needs your PIN. Second: check your printed QR occasionally. A known fraud pattern is stickers pasted over shop QRs redirecting payments — a ten-second glance protects a day of takings.

Static or dynamic for payments?

For a single counter with one UPI ID, a static code is fine and works offline forever. Consider a dynamic QR when the destination could change: you might switch banks or payment providers, you're printing on delivery bags and packaging at scale, or you want scan analytics — knowing your counter QR gets scanned 400 times on Saturdays but 40 on Tuesdays changes staffing decisions.

With India QRCode, a dynamic payment QR shows a hosted payment page with your details, and you can update the underlying UPI ID any time — the printed code never changes.

Beyond the counter

Print the QR on invoices for faster B2B collections, on delivery packaging for COD-to-UPI conversion, and on table tents paired with your menu QR. Freelancers put it on email signatures and portfolio sites. The pattern is always the same: reduce the seconds between 'I should pay' and 'paid'.
